Memphis Relics: Brutalist Triptych is a definitive three-piece sculptural suite by Carlos Castillo (Mr. Castle) exploring the collision between radical 1980s postmodern design and ancient monolithic archaeology.
Drawing inspiration from the irreverent geometry of the Memphis Group and the totemic presence of Andean standing stones, each monolith is sculpted from a heavy mineral clay matrix. Acid-washed yellow surfaces and raw mineral crags are juxtaposed against ultra-crisp geometric blocks of cadmium red, deep verdigris teal, and hand-applied high-contrast dot patterns.
Finished with selective coats of high-gloss lacquer against dry, weathered stone, the suite functions as a speculative artifact: an excavation of late-20th-century pop aesthetics fossilised into sacred totems. The pieces can be displayed together as a commanding architectural triptych or acquired as individual monolithic relics.
